By Staff Writer | September 30, 2003

Qualcomm [Nasdaq: QCOM], a San Diego, Calif.-based developer of digital wireless communications products and services, has agreed to buy Mobicom, a European mobile satellite data communications systems and service provider, from Paris-based Alcatel [NYSE: ALA], for an undisclosed consideration. As part of the transaction, Mobicom’s customer base now will be serviced and supported by Qualcomm Wireless Business Solutions Europe, headquartered in The Netherlands.

Alcatel said that selling these non-core operation activities will allow its Alcatel Space subsidiary to refocus its engineering force on new location-based services applications for individual mobility in relation to the service of EGNOS and Galileo satellite navigation systems
