PanAmSat Eyes In-Orbit HDTV Neighborhood

By Staff Writer | September 26, 2003

Wilton, Conn.-based PanAmSat [Nasdaq: SPOT] is building up its in-orbit satellite capacity of potentially lucrative high-definition television (HDTV) services.

An initial step is the planned launch of the Galaxy XIII/Horizons I satellite scheduled for Tuesday. The new satellite would spur PanAmSat’s launch of the first HDTV satellite neighborhood over North America, its officials said. If successful, PanAmSat would be able to enhance the value of the satellite and the orbital slot, they added.
