Telenor Upgrades Global Inmarsat C Network

By Staff Writer | August 13, 2003

Telenor Satellite Services has upgraded its Inmarsat C ground network and has begun transitioning all of its Inmarsat C services to its earth station at Eik in Norway.

As a result of re-engineering its network, Telenor has standardized the capabilities of its system. Inmarsat C is a global data messaging service that uses small, inexpensive satellite terminals to send and receive data files and reports up to 32 kilobytes. Service applications include e-mail access via the Internet, fax and telex messaging, data transfers, and asset polling. Messages can be transmitted from mobile terminal units and by fixed communications devices such as personal computers, fax, and telex machines.
