Scientific-Atlanta’s Satellite System Delivers Government Programming in Washington

By Staff Writer | July 22, 2003

A Scientific-Atlanta [NYSE: SFA] PowerVu digital satellite content distribution system, designed and installed by Atlantic Telecommunications Services for the Washington Public Affairs Network (TVW), is delivering state and local government programming to more than 130 cable communities across Washington state.

The new PowerVu digital transmission system has replaced a less effective analog system that used both microwave and fiber interconnects. The PowerVu turnkey digital satellite content distribution upgrade saves TVW approximately $10,000 a month, improves signal quality and reliability, and provides service to areas within the state that have no fiber interconnectivity or would have required multiple microwave hops to reach, the company said.
