WorldSpace Confident About Satellite Radio In Europe

By Staff Writer | June 16, 2003

The success of XM Satellite Radio [Nasdaq: XMSR] and Sirius Satellite Radio [Nasdaq: SIRI] in the United States shows the potential for this sector in Europe, despite the bankruptcy filing of European satellite radio hopeful Global Radio. WorldSpace and a number of partners including Alcatel Space plan to go after that business.

WorldSpace CEO Noah Samara told SATELLITE TODAY: “We believe that this service will be immensely successful in Europe … A lot of Europeans speak more than one language. In that kind of a market, to be able to have radio at all times that you can listen to in the language of your choice, in your car or anywhere for that matter, will be a service that will be immensely valuable.”

An exclusive interview with Noah Samara can be found in the June 18 issue of Interspace. For more information about subscribing to PBI Media’s satellite newsletters, check out our Web site at http://www.telecomweb.com/catalog
