Alcatel Space To Build RASCOM Satellite For $150M

      Paris-based Alcatel Space has been awarded a $150 million contract by RascomStar-QAF to build the first RASCOM (Regional African Satellite Communication Organization) satellite dedicated to serve the African content. Alcatel will supply the satellite and infrastructure, including the mission, business, and ground control segments.

      Based on the Spacebus 3000B3 platform, the satellite will provide fixed voice, data, Internet access and broadcast satellite services to Africa. It will have 12 Ku- and 6 C- band transponders and will be located at the 2.9 degrees East Longitude orbital slot.
