EMS Supplies Software For Personal Locator Beacon

By Staff Writer | June 6, 2003

EMS Technologies [Nasdaq: ELMG] said its SARMaster search-and-rescue (SAR) information system is being used for the first personal locator beacon (PLB) deployment in Vermont on July 1. EMS also will deploy SARMaster to two other states, Oregon and Washington, later this year.

Vermont will use SARMaster to receive and respond to PLB alerts forwarded by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center at Langley Air Force Base, which also uses the EMS software. Hikers and other outdoor enthusiasts in distress can activate a PLB, which will allow rescue organizations to track their location using the international Cospas- Sarsat satellite search and rescue system.
