FT’s Broadband Service

By Staff Writer | November 20, 2002

France Telecom has begun marketing a service that provides mobile broadband satellite transmission. Inmarsat’s regional BGAN service will help international organisations and professionals in construction, mining, the oil and gas industries, transport, agriculture, tourism, finance and the media to connect to their corporate networks quickly and reliably. At the same time, the service offers developing countries a cost-effective entry into the Internet age, company officials said.

Regional-BGAN service enables a user to access Internet or a corporate Intranet and to transmit large volumes of data more than twice as fast as current terrestrial GPRS mobile services, at 144 Kbps under a shared channel.
