The bulk of the World Cup feeds from Seoul and Japan are being carried here. The PanAmSat satellites located here offer one-hop capacity for Europe.       A – The Iranian state TV channels, TV 1, 2, 3 and 4 from the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) are expected to cease broadcasts in Pal in the near future. These channels are already available in MPEG DVB from Intelsat 902 so it would seem feasible to switch off the analogue outlets. Incidentally, Iran’s equivalent to the vice squad, the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps, has confiscated a staggering 11,191 “illegal” satellite dishes in Tehran province alone.

Ulusal Canal has returned to 12581 MHz horizontal, SR 2284, FEC 7/8, VPID 308, APID 256 in clear MPEG-2.

      D – Tatarstan Novy Tek (TNV) is available via 12226 MHz LHCP, SR 4339, FEC 3/4, VPID 320, APID 401 with Bulgar FM via APID 402. These channels use the North beam that is centred on the Moscow area at 53 dBW and reaching out to Iran in the south, Turkmenistan in the east and the eastern half of Germany at 47 dBW. Two more channels have joined the NTV+ package on 12246 MHz RHCP, SR 27500, FEC 3/4. They are Reindeer TV – V322, A404 and RTR 2 – V323, A406. At present both channels are free-to-air. The Italian independent TV channels, Nuvolari, Leonardo, Marco Polo and Alice have left 12567 MHz horizontal.

      D – Another home shopping channel, ShopAid TV, has launched on 11525 MHz vertical, SR 27500, FEC 2/3, VPID 2328, A2329, Sky Ch.657 in clear MPEG-2. Film Four, Film Four+1, Film Four World and Film Four Extreme have launched on 11565 MHz vertical, SR 27500, FEC 2/3 following their departure from Astra 2A. Avago, the new “Bingo Channel” for Sky Digital subscribers is testing on 11546 MHz horizontal, SR 27500, FEC 2/3, VPID 2312, APID 2313 in clear MPEG-2. LBC Europe and the Arabic language channel ART Aflam have launched on 11527 MHz vertical, SR 27500, FEC 2/3, VPIDs 2314/2316, APIDs 2315/2317 in clear MPEG-2.

BBC Sport’s interactive World Cup coverage is carried on 10847 MHz vertical, SR 22000, FEC 5/6 via eleven streams encoded in Videoguard. The PIDs for these are: V2305, A2306; V2333, A2334; V2337, A2338; V2341, A2342; V2345, A2346; V2349, A2350; V2325, A2326; V2305, A2306; V2333, A2334; V2337, A2338; V2341, A2342. The APID for BBC Cymru, the Welsh language service, on 11719 MHz horizontal, SR 27500, FEC 2/3 has been changed to 2338. Film Four, Film Four+1, Film Four World and Film Four Extreme have left 12168 MHz vertical and have relocated to Eurobird (11565 MHz vertical). Vibe TV is carrying out free-to-air test transmissions on 12344 MHz horizontal, SR 27500, FEC 2/3, VPID 2316, APID 2317. Vibe is expected to broadcast for just a few weeks as the channel’s main objective is to promote “Angel,” a new recording artist. Vibe will close in August. The music and arts channel Digital Classics TV has suspended subscription charges and has become a free channel (with the Sky Digital basic Family Package). Digital Classics can be found on 11681 MHz vertical, SR 27500, FEC 2/3, VPID 2327, APID 2328, Sky Ch.464 from 17:00-23:00 nightly. It seems that competition from Artsworld and BBC Four was the main cause for the decision. The Shopping Genie is new on 12344 MHz horizontal, SR 27500, FEC 2/3, VPID 2318, APID 2319, Sky Ch.658. Sky Digital have announced that they are to re-brand their movie channels during the summer. The twelve premium channels will be renamed Sky Movies so that Sky MovieMax will become Sky Movies Max etc and Sky Premier will change to Sky Movies Premier. The changes are expected to start taking shape from July 1. TV JobShop, Sky Ch.683, which started off last year as a 24-hour channel has had to reduce transmission times to 05:30-21:30. It is not known if financial reasons are behind the change. The Inspiration Network ceased broadcasts unexpectedly on June 1. The religious channel had occupied Ch.673 in the Sky Digital EPG. Asianet UK, which will broadcast in the Malayalam language, is hoping to join the Sky Digital line-up in August. This will be the first full time Malayalam channel to be available in the UK. Malayalam is spoken in Kerala and Mahe in the South West tip of India. Ailing ITN Radio has left Sky Digital. The channel, which has been struggling for listeners ever since its launch last year, was available via Ch.878 but left here on June 1. YouTV, another lifestyle offering, launches on June 5 at Ch.229 where it will stream share with S4C2.

      D – The Arabsat Information Channel has launched in free-to-air MPEG-2 on 12620 MHz vertical, SR 27500, FEC 3/4, VPID 2760, APID 2720. Al-Mehwer TV, Nile News and Egyptian Space Channel 1 (ESC1) have all left 12620 MHz vertical. Kuwait TV3 (KTV3) has vacated 12526 MHz vertical where it had been available via PIDs V301, A305. There is, however, a new Kuwait mini-package on 12549 MHz vertical, SR 7200, FEC 3/4 which contains KTV1 – V101, A105; KTV 3 – V201, A205 and KTV 4 – V301, A305 – or at least it was on this frequency but has since returned to 12526 MHz vertical, SR 8000, FEC 3/4. All three streams are free-to-air.
      A – The Libyan radio station Iz’aat Al-Jamahiriyah Al-Outhmah has left the 7.20 MHz audio sub-carrier on the back of Libyan Jamahiriyah TV at 12700 MHz vertical. Al-Manar TV has vacated 12685 MHz where it had been available in free-to-air Pal.

      D – The radio stations contained within the Spanish Canal Satelite Digital bouquet on 11934 MHz vertical, SR 27500, FEC 3/4 have new PIDs. The current parameters are: M-80 Radio – A257, Cadena Ser – A262, 40 Principales – A260, Cadena Dial – A256, Radiole – A258, Radiole Tropical – A259, Sinfo Radio – A261, Euskadirratia – A268, Radio Euskadi – 269, Andalucia Radio – A263, Catalunya Cultura – A267, Catalunya Informacio – A265, Catalunya Musica – A266 and Catalunya Radio – A264. All of these are free-to-air. For German viewers ARD are providing World Cup soccer via a new stream in the ARD Digital package on 11836 MHz horizontal, SR 27500, FEC 3/4. The dedicated stream can be found on PIDs V1001, A1002 under the ID ‘ARD WM2002’. VH-1 has joined the Cyfra+ package for Poland at 12304 MHz horizontal, SR 27500, FEC 3/4, VPID 165, APID 98. In common with all of the other channels here, VH-1 is encoded in Cryptoworks. A new Viacom multiplex has opened at 11597 MHz vertical, SR 22000, FEC 5/6. It contains six active streams carrying MTV Espana, MTV Hits, MTV Base, VH-1 Europe, VH-1 Classic and MTV 2 Europe. Following the end of the Cannes Film Festival TV Festival has left 11739 MHz vertical and has been superseded by a Cine Cinemas testcard. A new multiplex containing six active streams has opened on 11097 MHz vertical, SR 22000, FEC 5/6. The line-up is: Travel Channel, TCN Espana, CNNI Europe, Bloomberg TV Espana, Sky News and CNN Radio. TCM and Bloomberg TV Espana are simulcrypt in Mediaguard/Cryptoworks, the remainder are free-to-air. Another new multiplex – this one for Canal Satelite Digital – has launched at 11538 MHz vertical, SR 22000, FEC 5/6 with Canal Canarias – V160, A80; TV de Catalunya Internacional – V161, A84; Andalucia TV – V162, A88; ETB Sat – V163, A92; TeleMadrid Sat – V164, A96, Fox News – V167, A108 and Real Madrid TV – V168, A112. In addition Canal Satelite Digital are also testing on 10877 MHz vertical, 11038 MHz vertical, 11156 MHz vertical, 11318 MHz vertical, 11436 MHz vertical and 11478 MHz vertical.

Within a very short time after the news of the Buckingham Palace fire filtered through during the evening of June 2 Sky News had an uplink on site using 12561 MHz horizontal, SR 5630, FEC 3/4, VPID 51, APID 179, ID:’Sky News’.

There is a new free-to-air Telespazio promo running on 12111 MHz vertical, SR 27500, FEC 3/4, VPID 230, APID 231. JazzRadio from Berlin has joined the Deutsche Telekom bouquet at 11604 MHz horizontal, SR 27500, FEC 5/6 via APID 2160 in free-to-air MPEG-2. On the same frequency, RTL Osterreich has been replaced by Deutsche Welle TV on PIDs V1000, A1001.

The general entertainment channel is normally encoded in Irdeto. ModelFlat is a newcomer at 12616 MHz vertical, SR 6111, FEC 3/4, VPID 308, APID 256. The channel airs from 18:00-21:00 daily. This is a Big Brother type programme for Fashion TV featuring six models temporarily living in a Milan apartment.

Bulgaria’s New Film Cinema on 12169 MHz horizontal, SR 28000, FEC 7/8 is free-to-air during the day but encodes in Conax at night when hard core erotic movies are shown.

Bloomberg replaces GNT here which has moved to 12012 MHz vertical, SR 27500, FEC 3/4, VPID 4097, APID 4098. Canal 9, which hails from the Tabasco region of Mexico, has vacated 3433 MHz horizontal, SR 4398, FEC 3/4. There have been some changes to the Guatamalan platform on 3455 MHz horizontal, SR 14250, FEC 2/3. Several audio channels have left plus Tele-Once, Televisiete and TeceVision. PanAmericana TV and RadioPrograms de Peru (RPP) have returned to 4119 MHz horizontal, SR 3719, FEC 7/8, VPID 1160, APIDs 1120/1122 after a short absence.
