PANAMSAT LINKS UP WITH THE EBU

By Staff Writer | May 23, 2001

PanAmSat is to provide full-time video link services from the Americas in support of live coverage of prominent sporting and special events to the EBU, which represents 69 national broadcasters from 50 countries in and around Europe. Although the US satellite operator has been providing services for the EBU for a number of years on an ad hoc basis, the deal will see it now become the EBU’s preferred service provider, offering a link between the Americas and Europe over the PAS-9 Atlantic Ocean Region satellite.

The agreement between the two parties will specifically cover the delivery of video feeds from the World Athletics Championship in Edmonton, Canada, as well as the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah. The EBU will also be transmitting video from a number of European events to the Americas.
