CZECH HONOURS EU TV RULES

By Staff Writer | November 29, 2000

The Czech Republic has approved draft legislation that sees it harmonise local regulations that affect satellite and cable broadcasters. Jan Pelcova from the government office press department says various amendments to the media law will shortly be discussed by the Chamber of Deputies, which include changes in the area of granting broadcasting licences or ownership in the media and observance of the so-called European ‘Television Without Frontiers’ directive and observing European production quotas. The Czech government had been the subject of criticism from the EU for not including broadcasting in its preparation for EU membership. Pelcova says he expects the legislation to be enacted by mid 2001.
