Cidera Expands Into Every European Country

By Staff Writer | November 2, 2000

Cidera Inc., a supplier of Internet broadcast backbone and broadband content to the edge of the Internet, said its European operation recently achieved the milestones of having customers and points of presence in every European country.

Cidera’s rapid growth is reflected in having signed 105 of its 144 European customers between Jan. 1 and Oct. 1. The gains have continued in October as Cidera announced pan- European agreements with co-location companies CityReach International and ScoLocate, the appointment of Jonathan Evans as senior vice president for international sales and the opening of a new European headquarters in London.

“We’re very encouraged by the acceptance that our satellite delivery solution has received in a wide variety of markets across Europe,” said Bob Marggraf, Cidera’s executive vice president and chief operating officer. “Our growing customer base in Europe is a testament to the reach, performance and quality of our network.”

Robert Jones, Cidera’s managing director for Europe, said, “Cidera’s goal is to be everywhere at the edge of the Internet, and with the success we’ve met in Europe, we’re taking further strides in that direction.”

Cidera uses satellites to deliver broadband content to the edge of the Internet, relying on high-speed technology designed to transport high-bandwidth data faster, more reliably, and more efficiently to ISPs and DSL and cable access providers.
