Three Senior Executives Promoted As HSC Prepares For Purchase By Boeing

      Hughes Space and Communications Co. [GMH] named three senior executives to new positions as The Boeing Co. [BA] completed the purchase of the satellite manufacturing operations for $3.75 billion in cash.

      The new Boeing Satellite Systems Inc. will include Spectrolab Inc. and Hughes Electron Dynamics, which will be renamed Electron Dynamics Designs, as well as HSC.

      Joseph DeSarla was promoted to the new position of executive vice president of HSC and will function as its chief operating officer, emphasizing performance and execution of the business plan.

      Succeeding DeSarla is Alex Livanos, who will be responsible for all the product groups, supply chain management, factory operations, production planning and control, facilities administration and safety, health and environmental affairs.

      Ronald Maehl has been promoted to senior vice president for business development. He has been with Hughes for a year, having joined the company as vice president for strategic development. In his new position he is responsible for all new business efforts, marketing and development of new systems, strategic planning and mergers and acquisitions.
