By Staff Writer | August 24, 2000

Stratos Global Corp. of Toronto [SGB], a supplier of remote and mobile communications, said it will provide telecom services for more than 600 fixed VSAT sites under a contract announced last week with a VSAT manufacturer.

The contract is worth about $3 million per year and brings the total number of VSATs for which Stratos provides service to more than 2,500 the company said.

Stratos will provide services to end-users in the oil and gas, utilities and retail industries, with most of the sites located in North America. However, a key network will be in Latin America, and it will be monitored remotely through Stratos’ operations center in Denver, Colo.

“Our expansion into the Latin American fixed satellite market is in line with our strategy of providing network solutions to our customers in geographically diverse areas,” said Derek Woods, president and CEO of Stratos.
