SmartSky Networks Awards DragonWave Contract for High-Capacity Backhaul

DragonWave announced that it has been awarded a product supply and installation services contract from SmartSky Networks. SmartSky will deploy DragonWave’s Harmony Enhanced and Harmony Enhanced MC products to provide high-capacity backhaul for its Air-to-Ground (ATG) 4G LTE network.

SmartSky Networks selected Harmony Enhanced MC for the high capacity delivered through its 2048QAM and dual channel capabilities. In addition, according to DragonWave, the high system gain of the Harmony Enhanced MC makes it ideally suited for the long path lengths in the SmartSky network.

SmartSky recently announced securing its $170 million series B financing, and the company is now moving rapidly with the deployment of its coast-to-coast 4G LTE-based network to bring users connectivity in the air. With the latest financing, the company has raised approximately a quarter of a billion dollars in equity capital.

The nationwide network rollout is already underway, with the majority of sites expected to be operational this fall.
