Hughes Network Systems announced it has secured a multi-year contract to implement and manage a global Internet Protocol (IP)-based communications network for a major multinational organization. Under the agreement, Hughes will be responsible for the implementation, support and management of all elements of the network providing connectivity for more than 300 geographically diverse and remote monitoring sites in countries around the world.

The fully managed, private IP-based network will primarily employ Hughes’ Jupiter System, including a mix of satellite and terrestrial Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) links backed up by a combination of 3G/4G, IP Virtual Private Network (IPVPN) and Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) technologies. According to Hughes, as a fully redundant global service, the network will provide secure connectivity from remote monitoring sites to the organization’s headquarters, including individual site redundancy across the network.

As part of the turnkey solution, Hughes is responsible for obtaining regulatory approvals required to install sites in various countries, managing logistics for staging and shipping equipment on a global scale, and continuously monitoring the network to ensure it meets strict service level agreements. This includes the resources to rapidly deploy technicians to restore outages on a time-critical basis in remote locations around the world. The Hughes dedicated program management team will also support possible expansion of features and traffic as needed.
