[Via Satellite 12-01-2016] MTM Ship Management (MTMSM) has expanded its relationship with satellite communications provider NSSLGlobal by increasing the use of its VSAT IP@Sea, a maritime broadband VSAT (DVBS2-RCS2) service for commercial vessels. The enhanced relationship sees 21 existing vessels re-contracted for the next five years and will also see at least 20 new vessels being equipped with NSSLGlobal’s maritime VSAT over the coming months.

Within the new VSAT package MTMSM also benefits from NSSLGlobal’s Cruise Control suite of services, including an email solution with highly efficient over-the-air compression, web filtering and application control, and the recently launched Crew Unite module. This module is applied to the crew LAN to create an onboard portal where crew bandwidth is fairly managed by the use of crew “vouchers” to access the internet. Cruise Control Unite provides MTMSM with a way to ensure that personal crew connectivity does not unduly eat into bandwidth or data allowance reserved for commercial and operational tasks. It also removes the need for senior staff to spend time managing such issues.
