Gilat Satcom Optimizing POPs for IPv6

[Via Satellite 07-07-2015] Gilat Satcom has upgraded its Points of Presence (POPs) in Malawi, Zambia and the U.K. to receive and transmit traffic from Internet Protocol Version Six (IPv6) addresses. Operators in Africa who are now assigning IPv6 addresses to new and existing customers can send traffic within Africa as well as to and from overseas through Gilat Satcom.

Gilat Satcom provides broadband over both satellite and fiber to more than 50 countries in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. During 2015 the company will be upgrading all of its fiber and satellite networks throughout Africa to cater for increasing demand from operators, resellers and businesses of all sizes.

Gilat Satcom operates three international teleports in Europe and the Middle East, 14 hubs/POPs in Africa, two POPs in Europe and one in the United States. To date, operators in Malawi and Zambia have starting using Gilat Satcom’s IPv6-enabled POPs.
