[Via Satellite 04-23-2015] TelOne, Zimbabwe’s sole fixed telecommunications service provider, is expanding its contract with Avanti Communications for Ka-band capacity on the Hylas 2 satellite. The state-owned operator has deployed satellite communications for enterprise sector customers, consumers, and public sector programs. More than 300 schools have leveraged the service for broadband connectivity. The increased capacity supports Zimbabwe’s 100 percent universal broadband provision.

“[Avanti] has played an important role in expanding our broadband offering. Our contract has enabled us to address Zimbabwe’s gaping digital divide at pace. Hand-in-hand, we have developed market-leading broadband packages which support our mission of providing universal, affordable Internet access in Zimbabwe,” said Chipo Mtasa, managing director at TelOne.
