Laser Light, Pacnet Services Asia Pacific Partner on SpaceCable

[Via Satellite 12-22-2014] Laser Light, designer of an all-Optical Satellite System (OSS), and Pacnet Services Asia Pacific, a prominent independent regional communications service provider, have partnered on commercial opportunities for SpaceCable. Laser Light is planning a constellation of eight to 12 Medium Earth Orbiting (MEO) satellites for a global, optical SpaceCable service with a completed operating system capacity of 6.2 Tbps. The constellation includes satellite-to-satellite optical cross-links and satellite-to-ground optical uplink and downlink of 200 Gbps. Through this partnership, Laser Light intends to integrate its SpaceCable service offering with Pacnet’s terrestrial network facilities.

Pacnet is the owner and operator of the EAC-C2C submarine telecommunications cable system. Stretching 36,800 km, EAC-C2C has a design capacity of 10.24 Tbps. Sanjay Nayak, SVP of corporate development at Pacnet said the agreement allows the company to include Laser Light’s technology platform in its long-term decision-making.
