[Via Satellite 12-15-2014] Eutelsat Communications is working with NetHope to provide satellite connectivity for doctors and volunteers in Africa who are working to address the outbreak of Ebola. Equipment for voice, broadband and video conferencing has arrived in Accra, Ghana, where the United Nations’ Mission for Ebola Emergency Response is located. From there the terminals are being transported to Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea for deployment in areas with little or no telecommunications infrastructure.

NetHope helps humanitarian organizations leverage information communication technology in remote parts of the world. According to Eutelsat, the terminals will be able to deliver 1.2 terabytes of data over the next six months. The equipment can be self installed and activated in less than two hours for doctors and healthcare workers to use for coordinating their response across West Africa.
