[Via Satellite 11-26-2014] Airbus Defence and Space has released the new TH9 Tetra hand-portable radio, featuring enhancements in coverage, durability and location-based applications. The radios provide voice and data communications and all the functions of previous Tetra radios, along with support of the 406 to 410 MHz Direct Mode Operation (DMO) band. The DMO band is used in Germany and other countries, and allows users to communicate directly with each other independent of the Trunked Mode Operation (TMO) network.

The TH9 radio works with European, Chinese and Russian Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), Galileo, Beidou and Glonass, respectively. According to Airbus Defence and Space, the improved GNSS sensitivity enables autonomous geo-spatial positioning, improving positioning accuracy and reducing the time a receiver needs to acquire satellite signals and navigation data. The radio features several GNSS emergency applications, such as a dedicated shortcut key to instantly transmit one’s location.
