[Via Satellite 10-21-2014] SmartSky Networks, an In Flight Connectivity (IFC) startup with intentions of launching a high-bandwidth Air-to-Ground (ATG) service in the United States has announced partnerships with Textron Aviation, Duncan Aviation, Satcom Direct, ICG, and Harris Corporation. Together, SmartSky and its partners intend to launch an aviation-focused broadband service using 60 MHz of spectrum.

SmartSky plans to launch a beta trial of its ATG network in late 2015. A national rollout of commercial service is to follow in 2016.

According to SmartSky, the company’s 4G LTE service will provide more than 10 times the typical speed and capacity provided today. Partners will assist with engineering equipment, certification procedures and other services according to their specialties.
