[Via Satellite 10-14-2014] United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based iSat Africa has selected Measat’s Africasat 1a satellite to provide C-band coverage over Africa and Europe. The satellite enables iSat Africa to bolster its VSAT and broadcast solutions through the use of a single beam.

“We selected Africasat 1a due to the growing demand of our customers for data trunking, broadcasting, and [Global System for Mobiles] GSM backhaul solutions,” said Santosh Sakpal, technical manager for iSat Africa.

Launched in 2013, Africasat 1a’s C-band footprint covers Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Stationed at 46 degrees east, Measat has provided the orbital slot for the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan, who contracted Orbital Sciences to build the spacecraft.
