[Via Satellite 09-03-2014] Orange Business Services was awarded a five-year $12 million contract from BW Offshore for an end-to-end satellite communications solution. The company will graft BW Offshore’s 14 vessels and two land-based locations into the Orange Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) network.

Under the contract, BW Offshore plans to invest in Session Internet Protocol (SIP) trunking, i.e. Voice Over IP (VOIP) applied to connecting a Private Branch Exchange (PBX) to the Internet. SIP trunking will unify communications for the company’s 2,000 employees.

Orange Business Services’ solution enables BW Offshore to connect floating and land-based personnel on one network. Prior to the new multimillion dollar contract, BW Offshore used several separate VSAT providers to simultaneously connect employees and sites.
