[Via Satellite 08-01-2014] Ericsson will increase its work with the Australian government-owned National Broadband Network Company (NBN Co) to include operating the ground component of the Long Term Satellite Solution (LTSS). As the primary service partner for both fixed wireless and satellite services, Ericsson will assist NBN Co in providing broadband services to citizens in rural Australia.

NBN Co anticipates 12,000 to 15,00 installations per month in 2016. Ericsson will migrate the 42,000 interim satellite users over to LTSS when the service begins.

Under the new agreement, Ericsson will continue to manage NBN Co’s terrestrial fixed wireless service until 2018. Combined, satellite and fixed wireless are expected to cover more than 1 million households.
