[Via Satellite 06-17-2014] Wireless Nation, a New Zealand Internet Service Provider (ISP), will deploy Gilat Satellite Networks’ SkyEdge 2 Very-Small-Aperture-Terminals (VSATs) powered by Optus Networks’ satellite services over the Optus D2 satellite. The upgrade will assist Wireless Nation in serving residential, Small and Medium Enterprise (SME), corporate and government customers in New Zealand. The move is specifically targeted at remote locations or suburban areas that don’t have access to high speed Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) or fiber rollout.

The VSAT network is based on SkyEdge 2 WebEnhance and Accent terminals. WebEnhance terminals provide high download rates of more than 30 Mbps, and the Accent terminal supports both Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) and Single Channel Per Carrier (SCPC) return links for upstream throughput of more than 20 Mbps in SCPC mode, with a short switch to TDMA mode when lower rates are required.
