[Via Satellite 04-23-2014] Hispasat completed the ICT 2020 project with a demonstration of triple-play services for voice, data and television, using a combination of fiber optic and high-bandwidth satellite transmission systems. Hispasat headed the ICT 2020 project — which began in 2011 and concluded at the Technical University of Madrid — to improve Common Telecommunications Infrastructures (CTI). The goal of the program was to enhance the efficiency of telecommunications infrastructure to better handle large volumes of traffic.

The conclusion of the ICT 2020 project featured multiple video distribution demonstrations through satellite and Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) in SD, HD, 3D, 4K and Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV (HbbTV) using fiber optic. The ICT 2020 project is in keeping with the principles of the European Union’s “Horizon 2020” framework, and is part of the Spanish Industry Ministry’s Avanza 2 Plan.
