[Via Satellite 03-14-2014] Cobham Satcom, an Inmarsat Global Xpress partner, has announced two new maritime terminals and three new land mobile terminals for Inmarsat’s new satellite network. The new Sailor 100 GX, with a 103-cm reflector dish, is aimed at Cobham and Inmarsat’s core global shipping market customers. The compact Sailor 60 GX, featuring a 65-cm reflector dish, gives it the ability to enable Global Xpress’ high bandwidth connectivity on a range of smaller vessels.

“The strategy was designed to simplify the often complex maritime VSAT procurement process so it was a natural step to employ it for the launch of Global Xpress to ensure simplicity and high reliability for service providers and ship owners,” said Jens Ewerling, global business manager maritime VSAT, Cobham.

The first Sailor GX terminals will be available this summer, allowing Cobham’s maritime service provider partners to begin installing the systems on customer vessels for Inmarsat’s commercial service introduction.

Cobham is also introducing three new Global Xpress terminals to the Explorer range for land-mobile users. Explorer 3075GX features a manual point positioner, and the Explorer 5075GX is an auto-deploy fly-away VSAT solution. Both terminals offer integrated Wi-Fi and are all new designs developed in-house. A third Global Xpress antenna for drive-away solutions, the Explorer 7100GX will also be launched this year. With a 100-cm reflector, it is based on the established Explorer 7100 VSAT terminal.
