[Via Satellite 01-30-2014] Globalstar has announced Sat-Fi, a new voice and data solution that provides seamless integration between any Wi-Fi enabled device and Globalstar’s satellite constellation. Sat-Fi allows customers to use their existing smartphones to send and receive communications through Globalstar’s satellite network allowing for seamless voice and data connectivity beyond the range of cellular.

Through the Sat-Fi app and satellite hot spot, users will be able to send and receive calls, email and SMS text messages from their device anywhere within Globalstar’s footprint. Sat-Fi customers will be able to maintain a constant connectivity, whether on land or at sea, when traveling in and out of cellular coverage.

The new Sat-Fi platform is designed to appeal to a broad market including enterprise and government customers as well as the mass consumer market.

“Now that we have completed the deployment of our new constellation, Sat-Fi will have global appeal to those who need reliable connectivity beyond the cellular grid,” said Jay Monroe, chairman and CEO of Globalstar. “As we continue to seamlessly integrate our satellite services into the everyday lives of our increasingly expanding subscriber base, this scalable technology represents a giant leap forward in achieving this fundamental goal.”
