[Via Satellite 11-25-13] Spain’s Ministry of Defense (MOD) has chosen to use Globalstar’s Spot Satellite GPS Messenger and Spot Connect devices for in-field communications for personnel who are operating in remote locations with no cellular coverage.

With nearly 300 units already in deployment, MOD field personnel can now keep in touch with central command for fast recovery during emergency scenarios and keep track of people and assets. The Spot worldwide tracking and personal security solution is fully integrated into the mapping solution being used for the tracking and security of army personnel.

When paired with a smartphone, Spot Connect allows users to send email, text messages and GPS coordinates. In the event of an emergency, users can send an SOS message to the GEOS International Emergency Response Center.
