Ball Aerospace Completes Expansion of Satellite Manufacturing Center

By Veronica Magan | January 28, 2013

Ball Aerospace has announced the completion of a 90,000-square-foot expansion project at its integration facility in Boulder, Colo., finishing work that started in 2005.

The expansion will be used as a new satellite manufacturing center for contracts from NASA’s Joint Polar Satellite System, DigitalGlobe’s WorldView-3 remote-sensing satellite, the B612 Foundation’s Sentinel Mission, and several U.S. Department of Defense and national security missions.
According to the company, the expanded aerospace manufacturing complex in Boulder includes 60 percent more cleanroom space, new environmental testing systems, and added build-out capacity for a larger thermal vacuum chamber, used to test spacecraft.
This completion of this facility complements another expansion project in Westminster, Colo. that finished in 2011, the company said.
