ViaSat to Introduce High-Dynamic C-Band Antenna at ICT 2012

By Rebecca Lincks | October 18, 2012

[Satellite TODAY 10-18-12] ViaSat will introduce a new high-dynamic C-band antenna feed at the 2012 International Telemetering Conference (ITC), the company announced Oct. 18.

The patent-pending C-band antenna is designed to track fast moving targets and provide high tracking resolution and autotracking performance by integrating into L- and S-band antennas. Aiming to minimize cost of the upgrade and antenna system downtime, the feed is able to be retrofitted in the field and also use the existing RF chain.
At ITC on Oct. 23 Viasat will provide a technical paper with testing data on the C-band feed aiming to display evidence that it can lock onto fast moving targets better than competing feeds.
A new antenna tracking control architecture designed for satellite auto-tracking targets with weak tracking beacon power will be presented as well. This tracking mode will utilize GEO MEO, and LEO satellites both during orbit insertion and orbit maintenance operations aiming to provide telemetry, tracking, and control applications.
