[Satellite TODAY 06-28-12] Thailand’s national regulatory board has awarded Thaicom a license that will allow the private satellite operator to start selling bandwidth for its Thaicom 7 satellite after it is launched in 2014, the company confirmed June 27.
Thaicom also received a type-3 license that covers companies operating their own satellite-based communications networks.
In a June 27 research note, financial broker Kiatnakin Securities said the license should help reduce the company’s expenses.
“The license to operate the Thaicom 7 satellite will help complete the company’s MOU with Hong Kong’s Asia Satellite Telecommunication and secure their slot at the 120 degrees east orbital location,” the firm said. “The Thaicom 7 satellite should benefit from cost saving, since providing service on the licence will reduce its fees to 5.75 percent from 20.5 percent currently.”
