[Satellite TODAY 05-29-12] Two of Australia’s leading pay-TV operators have completed a merger. Austar and Foxtel, which both offer pay-TV services via satellite, have completed their merger and have combined to form a DTH powerhouse in Australia. The combined company, going under the Foxtel brand, will directly employ approximately 2,500 people, service 2.2 million subscriber households and entertain more than 7 million viewers each week.
“We will physically bring the Foxtel and Austar platforms together over the coming months. Soon consumers will receive the same great Foxtel content whether you live in regional Australia or the cities. Austar customers will not need to do anything; they will transition seamlessly to Foxtel,” Foxtel CEO Richard Freudenstein said in a statement.
