Thrane & Thrane Aviator 700D Receives FAA Parts Manufacturer Approval

By Jeffrey Hill | April 5, 2012

[Satellite TODAY 04-05-12] Thrane & Thrane has been awarded a Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA) for its Aviator 700D solution by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which certifies its use aboard all regulated aircraft, the manufacturer announced April 4.

The PMA award follows successful testing of the Aviator 700D on a Falcon 900EX aircraft, which was carried out by Thrane & Thrane partner AeroMech. The certification also allows Thrane & Thrane to commence shipment of the product worldwide.
The AVIATOR 700D aims to provide both classic and Inmarsat SwiftBroadband services to support a range of communications applications, such as in-flight Wi-Fi and voice calling, in an aircraft cockpit and cabin.
AeroMech Vice President of Business Development Dave Doucette was involved in the product testing. “The Falcon 900EX testing went flawlessly and demonstrated complete functionality of the cockpit data link via Inmarsat’s SwiftBroadband service,” Doucette said in a statement. “Thrane & Thrane’s Aviator 700D has opened the door for cost-effective CPDLC for the corporate aircraft market and in-flight communications for a range of other sectors.”
