KVH Inks VSAT Service Partnership Agreement with V.Ships

[Satellite TODAY 03-15-12] KVH Industries has been selected as the preferred satellite communications solution provider for independent ship manager V.Ships and will deliver mini-VSAT enhanced data applications to its fleet of more than 1,000 vessels, KVH announced March 12.

V.Ships said it intends to promote KVH’s TracPhone onboard terminals and the global mini-VSAT Broadband service to its customers through its sister company SeaCom Electronics, which also will handle installation and technical support.
“We selected the KVH mini-VSAT Broadband service after evaluating its performance on more than a dozen of our managed vessels,” SeaCom Electronics Managing Director Neil Sayce said in a statement. “The small, relatively lightweight antennas are much easier to place, do not require a crane and can offer a greater choice in finding a clear location to minimize obstructions by the ship’s superstructure.”
The mini-VSAT Broadband service uses ArcLight spread-spectrum technology, which was developed by KVH’s satellite technology partner ViaSat.
