[Satellite TODAY 01-30-12] Canadian enterprise and government satellite firm Galaxy Broadband Communications has launched its Enterprise HS Internet service in both Northern Canada and various regions of the Arctic, the company announced Jan. 26.

Galaxy began transmitting the service from its Vancouver hub using three Ka-band spot beams on Telesat’s Anik F2 satellite, with service coverage over the Arctic, Yukon, Northwest, Nunavut and Alaskan territories.
“Many of our oil and gas and mining customers have been asking us to expand our network and service their northern remote locations,” Galaxy Founder and CEO Rick Hodgkinson said in a statement.
“We have focused on building a world class, high-quality of service network with extended coverage into the far north. This leading edge technology is being welcomed by industry and government alike into an area that has been traditionally underserved,” Galaxy Vice President James Derwinsky added.
