By Jeffrey Hill | November 22, 2011
[Satellite TODAY 11-22-11] Gilat Satellite Networks was selected by an unnamed Latin American operator to deliver a full scale SkyEdge 2 network comprised of hubs and VSATs supporting connectivity to a national post office in the region, Gilat confirmed Nov. 21.
Gilat said it would supply the national operator with connectivity to approximately 7,000 branch offices via SkyEdge 2 VSAT hardware. The SkyEdge 2 network also will be integrated into the operator’s MPLS backbone as well as its network management system to support local and regional communities with essential communications and transactional connectivity.
“Our SkyEdge 2 system was selected following a rigorous public tender, having provided an excellent total cost of ownership solution by offering the most efficient solution for allocating bandwidth across remote locations, economically serving the different traffic requirements across network sites,” Gilat Regional Vice President of Latin America Russell Ribeiro said in a statement.
Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
