Orbit Releases OrBand Maritime VSAT System

By Jeffrey Hill | November 16, 2011
[Satellite TODAY 11-16-11] Orbit Communication Systems, a mission-critical connectivity solutions provider, has unveiled its OrBand VSAT system for maritime markets, the company announced Nov. 15.
The AL-7107 OrBand solution supports extended C-band and Ku-band frequencies, as well as RF feeds. The unit was designed with electrically switchable linear and circular polarizations to deliver RF performance equivalent to industry-standard systems in a much smaller footprint. The manufacturer said the unit’s smaller size requires substantially less deck space and is 30 percent lighter than similar solutions.
“We have great feedback from our customers on the OrBand’s exceptional RF performance as well as Orbit’s ability to provide them with a reliable solution, which results in improved operations and a crew with high moral that is more productive,” Orbit’s President of Satellite Communications Yosi Albagli said in a statement. “This outstanding system has recently been selected and delivered to yachts, naval and commercial shipping vessels. Based on these successes, we see OrBand as a key enabler for the adoption of C-band global satellite communications in the maritime industry.”
Orbit said the AL-7107 OrBand solution is the first of an extended family of products it plans to rollout in the near future.
