Comtech, Intellian Integrate Technology to Enhance Maritime VSAT Service

By Jeffrey Hill | September 30, 2011
[Satellite TODAY 09-30-10] Comtech EF Data has entered into a technology partnership with Intellian Technologies to integrate Intellian’s V-Series antennas with Comtech’s Roaming Oceanic Satellite Server (ROSS) Open Antenna Management (ROAM) protocol, the companies announced Sept. 29.
ROSS is an integrated location server that works in conjunction with Comtech EF Data’s Vipersat Management System to facilitate on-the-move satellite communications for oceanic vessels. Comtech said the integration aims to enable the satellite VSAT antenna systems on maritime vessels to globally roam across multiple satellite beams and maintain connectivity moving through different satellite footprints.
The Intellian v-Series stabilized communication antenna systems work in conjunction with international SCPC or TDMA networks. The unit’s built-in GPS and auto-skew angle control is used to quickly acquire satellite signals, with built-in controls allowing users to optimize the signal strength.
