Hermes Secures BP VSAT Service Contract Renewal

By Jeffrey Hill | June 29, 2011

[Satellite TODAY 06-29-11] Hermes Data Communications Middle East, a specialist providing WAN communications to the upstream oil and gas industry, has won a contract renewal to provide VSAT communications to support BP’s operations in Iraq, Hermes announced June 28.

The contract will see Hermes continue supporting BP’s degassing stations, rigs and static life support camps. The contract renewal includes additional bandwidth to BP’s South and North Rumaila sites to offer load sharing, as well as providing full redundancy across the BP Iraq network.
Hermes said it would be using a separate satellite provider, Yamal 200, to ensure complete independence from their existing link and support the BP contract.
“We believe this renewal demonstrates not only our ability to more than satisfy our customers’ needs but also highlights our strengths as a key player in Iraq, as well as the rest of the Middle East markets,” Hermes CEO Kevin Thorley said in a statement.
