Hughes Rolls Out Satellite Internet Service for Enterprise Market

[Satellite TODAY 06-27-11] Hughes Network Systems introduced its new business-grade satellite Internet service plans for small- and mid-sized businesses, the company announced June 24.
HughesNet Business Internet aims to offer five plans with download speeds of up to 5 Mbps. The company claims the service’s speeds are among the fastest in the North American satellite broadband market. Hughes is targeting a competitive market dominated by DSL and T1 services, but the company said it is confident in the advantages it provides.

“HughesNet coverage is ubiquitous across the continental United States, providing connectivity to even remote sites that DSL and cable can’t reach and where T1 lines are too expensive; there is no need to lease costly T1 lines to reach out-of-the-way locations. Secondly, HughesNet is reliable. The always-on connectivity of satellite is not vulnerable to utility pole and line damages, backhoes, and other mishaps that commonly disrupt terrestrial networks,” Hughes said in a company statement.
