[Satellite TODAY 06-09-11] Harris CapRock Communications has been chosen by Odfjell Drilling in Norway to deliver turnkey VSAT communication services to seven of its mobile offshore drilling rigs and drill ships currently operating in the North Sea and Africa, as well as those under construction in South Korea, Harris CapRock announced June 8.

The company received contracts for three of the rigs and contract renewals for the remaining four rigs at a total value of approximately $13 million, including options. Harris CapRock will deploy VSAT communications to provide voice-over IP, corporate networking, Internet access, real-time monitoring and reporting and crew infotainment services to Odfjell’s drilling units. The turnkey solution also includes equipment, service and technical support.
“We require an end-to-end communications service so that our clients and Odfjell Drilling can focus on the day-to-day drilling operations and not worry about our connectivity. The operators onboard our rigs and drill ships expect our assets to be well-equipped with the latest in communications technology to enable their real-time operations requirements,” Odfjell Frame Agreement Manager Erik Kjær Mjøs said in a statement.
