[Satellite TODAY 05-06-11] Satellite communications start-up iSat has acquired the management and employee operations of OmniGlobe EMEA for an undisclosed amount and will use the new assets to form a new company targeting satellite operators, communication service providers and corporate customers in Africa, the Middle East and Europe, iSat announced May 5.
The company said the acquisition was driven by an iSat initiative to exploit growing demand for instant, reliable services utilizing Ka-band satellite capacity.
“The history of the company is in successfully providing complex solutions to highly demanding customers in the satellite communications sector. With the completion of the management and employee buyout the team now has independence and capital to grow. The focus will firmly remain on satellite communications systems of the highest quality delivered anywhere in the world for any application,” iSat Chairman Kevin Cawood said in a statement.
Separately, iSat announced it is launching a new C-band service to the West Africa region with termination at Tier 1 in London Telehouse. The company said it will offer up to a transponder of bandwidth and that it expects demand for the service to, “quickly outstrip supply,” according to a company statement.
