By Jeffrey Hill | April 25, 2011

[Satellite TODAY 04-25-11] ITC Global has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the satellite operations of Broadpoint LLC, a communications service provider to the oil and gas sector in the Gulf of Mexico, ITC Global announced April 22.
ITC Global will inherit Broadpoint’s portable and fixed managed satellite service offerings, which includes broadband IP networking, MPLS, voice-over-IP, real-time video and Internet access for energy exploration and production customers. Broadpoint’s service is delivered via its teleport and network operations center located in Harahan, La.
Broadpoint customers will be able to access ITC Global’s coverage footprint and support services. ITC said it hopes the acquisition will help the company expand its business to emerging regional oil and gas exploration markets in West Africa and the Northwest Shelf of Western Australia.
"The combination of Broadpoint’s satellite business and ITC Global will provide our satellite customers with an expanded offering to address their needs for mission-critical communications services. Furthermore, the sale of the satellite unit will allow Broadpoint to focus on our core cellular telecommunications business, bringing reliable high quality voice and data services to our customer base and roaming partners throughout the Gulf of Mexico," Broadpoint COO Bryan Olivier said in a statement.
Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
