[Satellite TODAY 01-13-11] Russia’s Tomsk Polytechnical University (TPU) has selected Hughes’ HX System to provide forest fire monitoring services for the Russian Federal Forestry Agency, Hughes announced Jan. 12.
The HX System was supplied to TPU through Hughes reseller JSC Machinoimport. The satellite-based solution aims to monitor Russia’s immense forest regions, enabling early detection and rapid response to fires.
TPU’s Hughes HX network infrastructure is comprised of a central HX network operations center in Tomsk with fixed and mobile broadband satellite terminals in the field, including HX260 mesh terminals for simultaneous voice and data services. The network will be complimented by HX terminals mounted on vehicles to provide emergency communications from remote sites.
