[Satellite TODAY 09-16-10] Marlink has expanded its contract with shipping company AP Moller-Maersk to provide Inmarsat FleetBroadband airtime services to an additional 200 vessels, increasing the total number of AP Moller-Maersk vessels sailing with FleetBroadband airtime to 370, Marlink announced Sept. 15.
Partnering with Marlink, Vizada will support the contract expansion by enhancing the FleetBroadband service with features such as web compression and filtering. The new web compression and filtering solution of Vizada aims to filter and prioritize Internet and email traffic, in order to maximize efficiency of the communications network. AP Moller-Maersk will use the technology to meet their growing IP demand in the future.
“The cost effective and reliable communications provided by Marlink and its partners, Vizada and Inmarsat will enable Maersk Line to deliver significant operational efficiencies resulting in fuel savings and emission reductions that will help Maersk Line reach our ambitious environmental targets. Further, it has been of utmost importance to Maersk Line that the solution has focus on crew welfare by offering facilities for our crews to stay in touch with family and friends 24/7,” Niels Bruus, director of energy efficiency for AP Moller-Maersk said in a statement.
Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
