SpeedCast Selects Orbit Ku-band Antenna for Ku-band Service Expansion

[Satellite TODAY 06-30-10]  SpeedCast has selected Orbit Technologies’ OrSat-G (AL-7103) marine antenna to optimize coverage of its uninterrupted global maritime Ku-band service, the two companies announced June 29. 
    Orbit has already integrated the OrSat-G antenna into SpeedCast’s global Ku-band network, which also will be used to support SpeedCast’s turnkey maritime communications solutions. The SpeedCast maritime offering aims to provide a single bundled solution for maritime customers, with all of the equipment required to deliver uninterrupted communications services to their vessels. 
    SpeedCast CEO Pierre-Jean Beylier told Satellite Today that its maritime unit has become an increasingly important part of its business. “Maritime represented a minority of our revenues in 2009, but was growing rapidly. This year it will be even more. Maritime revenues grew by 104 percent in 2009. We anticipate over 100 percent growth in 2010 as well. There are a few different market segments in the maritime sector we cover. It is important to realize that the shipping companies have not recovered yet from the economic recession.”
