[Satellite TODAY 05-27-10] South Africa-based telecom service provider Q-Kon has leased long term C- and Ku-band capacity on Spacecom’s Amos-5i and Amos-5 satellites, the operator announced May 26.
Q-Kon will use the Amos platform for its specialist corporate network solutions to provide Africa to South Africa and Africa-to-Africa connectivity. Amos-5, positioned at 17 degrees East, will deliver pan-African signals as well as connectivity to Europe and the Middle East.
“Our Amos-5/5i platform is proving to be an intermediate and reliable solution for Africa’s regional capacity needs. We envision the platform as a major carrier for data and broadcasting services for the continent,” Spacecom President and CEO David Pollack said in a statement.
